TRUMP STORM

Donald Trump. I don’t want to write one word about him. I don’t want to share one thought. For the last six years, we have been inundated with Trump stories. Buried. But today I want to nibble around the edges of this Stormy Daniels matter.

I’m talking about the word ‘star’. First of all, she’s not a porn star. Name one ‘feature’ she’s been in. Linda Lovelace. John Holmes. Ron Jeremy (ew). That Ivory Snow woman. That’s about it for me. Miss Daniels is a porn actress. No shade here. Pornography is not for me but I accept that this genre, this subset of entertainment exists. Hell, I probably am more familiar with Pornhub than you are. As long as everyone is safe and healthy, so what? Go ahead. But she is not a star.

Let’s look at another slice of the entertainment industry, drag. This is similar to porn in that it is a smaller field with its own fan base and such. Drag stars, and drag queens who have risen to the top of their field include Lady Bunny, Lipsynka, and Ru Paul. But we wouldn’t call every person in a wig and makeup a drag star. Why are we doing that for Stormy?

The next part of this news story that I take exception to is the use of the word ‘affair’. An affair usually, but not always, involves romance. It also generally implies an ongoing relationship. Perhaps you are married and you discover a mutual attraction with your neighbor. That’s an affair. Suppose you are on Grindr and someone says, “U up?” You share a tryst and you never see them again. That’s not an affair. That’s a hook-up.

Finally, in this matter we see MAGA folks screaming, “This is unprecedented. Why don’t they treat Biden the same as Trump? It’s unfair.” This is because Trump’s actions are unprecedented. No president has ever behaved in such a manner. It reminds me of the defendant, on trial for the murder of his parents, saying to the judge, “Please have pity on a poor orphan.”
